The Luvuyo Kindergarten is going to have a Work Camp from 27 March until 7 May 2011. During this Work Camp a group of 16 German volunteers and further South African volunteers will build a double storey house in Mfuleni which will be used for the Kindergarten.

The German volunteers are all learners from three schools in the federal state NRW and attend grade 10 and 11. Because those learners do not intend to accomplish their A-level (Abitur), the school is offering them, under the guidance of Renate Riepe, to travel to South Africa.

The volunteers are preparing tor their journey throughout the year. Most of the funding for the erection of the building is coming from initiatives of the participants as well as from european foundations that decided to support the Luvuyo Kindergarten.

Furthermore, the participants meet on a regular basis to learn about South Africa’s background and try to get as much information as possible that will prepare them for their journey.

This journey has several objectives. It is supposed to be a journey where the learners can get to know and interact with a new and different sociocultural background as well as they get the opportunity to leave home and take responsibility for themselves and for the world they live in.

Despite supporting the Luvuyo Kindergarten, the outcome of this Work Camp which is supposed to be the construction of the building with all its details, should broaden the learners world view and clearify their motivations for their future life.

Renate Riepe who is a teacher at the Blote Vogel Schule in Germany intends to support the Luvuyo Kindergarten by means of future Work Camps and constant contact.

As this Work Camp initiates the beginning of the Luvuyo Kindergarten there will be lots of work in the next couple of years which requires eminent support…
